No one  plans to become gripped by the disease of addiction.

The reality is we are all at risk. No one and no family is immune. Every family has or will experience a friend or loved one struggling with addiction to prescription drugs, illicit drugs and or alcohol abuse.  2011 was the first time in our country, drug deaths out numbered motor vehicle deaths. Roughly 44 people die everyday just from prescription drugs in the United States. 

 

About 570,000 people die annually due to drug use. That breaks down to about 440,000 from disease related to tobacco, 85,000 due to alcohol, 20,000 due to illicit (illegal) drugs, and 20,000+ due to prescription drug abuse. 

 

In general, drug overdose deaths have been on the rise for the past two decades, but the number of deaths from heroin use is up by 39%.
